I'm not for sub or dub. Like you I either listen to what I'm used too, or listen to the english track when I don't want to read my TV shows.

It really is series dependent though. Cowboy Bebop I will watch dubbed every single time. Excel Saga I will switch back and forth, Naruto I will cut my own ears off before I listen to that dub willingly.

Good point though on the fact that the sugary moe character is just kind of a rare commodity for the American VA market. Can't really fault them for that.

I myself like to listen to the English audio while the dub track is on. It makes for a fun experience. :P

"Aloof-chummy" isn't so bad. One fansub group used "bipolar" which is just way wrong. Although I wish Bandai would just attempt to introduce a new term to the English speakers. The Haruhi dub kept in moe, so Bandai shouldn't be shy about keeping in tsundere.

I'm looking forward to the dub, as that gives me a great excuse to show it to our anime club. Kagami's voice surprised me at first, but it got better at the end of the trailer. Tsukasa and Miyuki I didn't hear enough of yet to make a full judgment. Konata isn't so bad; the VA is definitely trying to achieve Konata's unique tone of voice.

If you want a really good dub, take a listen to Princess Tutu.

On another note, I like the term "passive/aggresive" if someone absolutely insists on translating tsundere.

Coincidently, I was planning on a sub/dub post to write soon, although I'm nowhere at the level to write something like this one. (My post topic, if I write it, will look more at dubs for someone with little to no familiarity with the source language and any particularities in the original voice acting, something I haven't seen come up in the debates often in my very limited time watching the anime blogging community).

I was going to mention the second CCS movie as well, but Reboman already got to that. While the dub can't replace the Japanese for me there, Sakura's voice actress does a decent job, and I don't recall having any complaints on Li and Tomoyo's English voices. Now, if you look at the first movie's dub... But I won't go there.

I almost always give dubs a chance, after watching in Japanese. If it's a series I enjoyed, I've highly likely to give the dub a chance. If it's a long series, or one which I wouldn't be interested in watching through again (Nadia: Secret of Blue Water), then I'll skip the dub completely.

If releases are all sub-only, then there's never a chance for a good dub ;)

Oh, I don't know. I thought the CCS Movie 2 dub was alright. I switch to the English track half the time to hear Wendee Lee/Haruhi as Kero.

They might have well have kept the word 'tsundere' on there. Even if people such as myself don't know Japanese, I think we've been to enough anime message boards to have an idea as to what it effectively means.
