And that's the last "wood" joke you'll hear from me in this entry.

Episode 4 of CCS, "Sakura's Tiring Sunday", shows us the consequences of not following the user manual, or ignoring tech support. Well, actually it's just Sakura forgetting to write her name on a pair of cards, causing them to go wild. Or something.

I have to assume that the writing of the name is more a symbolic ritual than anything, since Sakura writes "SAKURA" in English on the cards (why English, instead of kanji or hiragana, is never really explained), and I'm pretty sure there's more than one Sakura around. Some may even have magical powers as well, unless we're not allowed to crossover with Fate/Stay Night or Da Capo, in which case never mind.

Overall, a fun little episode, but not especially earth-shaking or portentous.

Sakura is all happy that she'll get to go on a picnic with Tomoyo, but completely forgot that she had traded house-cleaning duties with Touya a couple of weeks back (due to Rika's piano recital), and so has to stay home today.

I can understand how she could have forgotten, since I did much the same a few times when I was younger. This gradually faded over time, as I steadily reduced my social life to the useless and trivial appendix that it now is, although not exactly by intention. So now, apart from the essentials like school/work, I'm pretty much free. I'm not entirely certain the trade-off was worth it.

Sakura calls Tomoyo to apologize, and Tomoyo tells her not to worry about it. After Sakura hangs up, Tomoyo looks at the picnic preparations, and sighs.

Awwww.

Screenshot 03

Sakura finds two Clow cards in dormant card form around the house, but doesn't get a chance to consult with Kero-chan about this, since she has to go deliver her father's presentation to him at the bus stop. After finishing her mission, she trades her XP reward for a coincidental meeting with Yukito.

Yukito offers to treat her to lunch at a nearby restaurant, where Super Baito Touya also coincidentally happens to be working. Or perhaps not so coincidentally, since this is Super Baito Touya we're talking about, and he's everywhere, or at least everywhere Yukito also is.

Yukito proceeds to devour three large curry rice portions. I used to think that this was impressive, but then I started doing the same thing myself.

Screenshot 04

CHECK!Point: Sakura, once again, in hanyaa~n mode after meeting with Yukito.

Upon returning home, Sakura discovers that there's a tree growing in her basement. This is kind of like Tentacle Monster Lite, or something.

The doorbell rings, and the tree branches grab her to conveniently deposit her at the front door. Sakura is mortified that now she has to explain why there's a tree in the basement to any potential delivery agents. I doubt "bonsai gone horribly wrong" is going to pass muster.

Screenshot 06

CHECK!Point: The person at the door turns out to be Tomoyo, who very calmly looks around and goes "haa~" in mild curiosity. I love that girl.

So Tomoyo decided that since Sakura couldn't go to the park with her for the picnic, they may as well have the picnic at Sakura's home. This may not be such a bad idea, considering that we now have suitable greenery.

Tomoyo also lets herself in. Apparently Sakura doesn't lock the front door, which might explain all her worries about thieves making strange noises in the house.

CHECK!Point: Tomoyo with her camcorder.

Screenshot 08

CHECK!Point: Sakura in her costume of the day.

I have to wonder why Tomoyo decided to bring along this particular costume to the aborted picnic. The explanation given in the episode was that she wanted to film Sakura doing Sakura things in that costume, which kind of makes sense if one carefully twists one's worldview to match Tomoyo's. I can imagine her doing all this because, to her, Sakura-chan's embarrassed expression is so kawaii~ or some such.

Well, it's not like I can disagree.

So Sakura crawls through the foliage, intent on figuring out why the normally sedate Wood card is messing up the place…

Screenshot 11

… and Tomoyo is right behind her, filming up her skirt.

Yeah.

Screenshot 12

Here we see the Rain card, even more loli than the Watery card. Later we'll see that this particular Clow Card design will get repeated, which implies that Clow Reed ran out of ideas and just stamped out loli after loli.

Screenshot 13

Sakura gets drenched. Oddly enough she doesn't actually get wet per se, since after all this is over, she doesn't drip or anything.

No explanation or elaboration is given about the effects of the Rain card on all the, yanno, books in the basement. Or the electric equipment, such as the vacuum cleaner that Sakura had left there in the middle of cleaning.

In any case, Sakura uses the Watery card against the Rain, which proceeds to pwn in a battle of the lolis. Well, all it does is turn the Rain's water against it, which isn't particularly flashy or exciting, but still counts as pwnage, I think.

Screenshot 14

With the Rain gone, the Wood returns to its peaceful Gaia-of-Nature form, and encards itself.

Screenshot 15

The rampage of the Wood through the house made a mess of the house-cleaning, though, and so Sakura and Kero have to do it all over again. Or rather, do more than they had, since now everything's in disarray, rather than merely in need of a quick cleaning. Tomoyo offers to help, possibly seeing this as justified payment for the upskirt shots she took.

Screenshot 16

Today's Kero-chan ni Omakase is, again, about the battle costume. Kero-chan doesn't really say a lot about it; I suppose it's the equivalent of me just going "moe~ moe~ moe~" for a couple of minutes or something.
